Today, at a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Science, Education, and Culture, plans to tighten the requirements for the production of domestic films in Kyrgyzstan were announced.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy Marat Tagaev noted that the country's film industry is actively progressing.

“Currently, each studio independently determines which films to create, and scripts are approved only by the artistic council. Now, an artistic-expert council will operate under the Department of Cinematography, which will take responsibility for selecting films for production. In addition, a National Council has been established to coordinate the overall strategy for the development of cinematography, which will be headed by the Deputy Prime Minister. The institutions 'Kyrgyzfilm', 'Kyrgyzserial', and the Department of Cinematography are also working on regulatory acts aimed at improving the quality standards of film production,” he added.

According to the official, while previously about 100 million soms were allocated to support cinematography, by 2025-2026 this amount will increase to 1 billion. “Thus, funding will increase tenfold. There is great interest in creating films in the country; however, it is also important to pay attention to their quality,” Tagaev emphasized.

He also reported that there are 37 cinemas operating in Kyrgyzstan. “In 2024, we leased 20 of them. Currently, 10 cinemas are under the Department of Cinematography, and we are ready to consider the possibility of leasing them if a interested investor comes forward,” concluded the deputy minister.
