In Kyrgyzstan, starting from March 2026, there will be a verification of the content of all television channels. This decision was announced on January 15 during a meeting with media representatives by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy Marat Tagaev. The authorities plan to take measures against television channels that do not comply with current legislation by the end of the year.

According to the law, at least 60% of broadcast time must be in the Kyrgyz language and contain domestic programs. As the deputy minister noted, some private television channels continue to profit from old programs and films that were released more than ten years ago, thereby not creating new content.

There are 42 television channels operating in the country, of which only two—NTRK and ELTR—receive funding from the state budget.

Currently, the closure of television channels is not planned, but decisions will be made for violators by the end of 2026.

The Ministry of Culture has proposed that private television channels sign contracts to purchase new content from the organizations "Kyrgyzfilm" and "Kyrgyzserial." Their fund contains about 400 films and more than 40 animation projects and series. Television channels have one and a half months to sign agreements; otherwise, the content will be transferred to state television channels.

Quality control and compliance with the new requirements will begin in March.
