The Ministry of Culture and UNESCO Experts Discussed the Optimization of the Buffer Zone of "Sulaiman Too"

At a meeting held the day before, the Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mirbek Mambetaliev, met with an international expert group that arrived in Kyrgyzstan to work on the UNESCO World Heritage site "Sacred Mountain - Sulayman Too".

As noted by the Ministry of Culture, the visit of the experts was organized as part of the implementation of the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, adopted on October 31, 2025, aimed at optimizing the boundaries of the buffer zone of this site. The international mission will be in Kyrgyzstan from January 7 to January 12.

The expert group includes: the goodwill ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO Dmitry Voyakin, former president of ICOMOS Nepal and coordinator of the ICOMOS Regional Network for the Asia-Pacific region Kai Waize, as well as cultural heritage researcher Nargiz Aituganova.

During their visit, the experts plan to develop a new nomination for optimizing the buffer zone and assess the impact on the World Heritage site.

The meeting discussed key aspects of preserving "Sulayman Too," as well as compliance with UNESCO's recommendations and requirements. Further steps for preparing and agreeing on the updated nomination were also discussed.

The Minister of Culture emphasized the importance of cooperation with international experts and expressed readiness for active collaboration to preserve the unique historical and cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan.
