The Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy, Mirbek Mambetaliev, shared with AKIpress details about the theaters that were renovated in 2025, as well as the replacement of equipment in them.

Children's Theater: from "shabby building" to "sweet treat"

As the minister noted, about 80 million soms were allocated for the restoration of the Bakken Kydykeeva Children's Theater.

“We completely dismantled the building down to the walls and carried out a major renovation, as a result of which the theater transformed and, I dare say, became a 'sweet treat.' All technical equipment was replaced, and new lighting and sound equipment were installed,” Mambetaliev stated.

Russian Drama Theater: let's forget about repairs for 10-15 years

In 2025, the major renovation of the Chyngyz Aitmatov Russian Theater was completed.

“More than 300 million soms were spent on this work. All stage equipment has been replaced, and the seats are also new. We can be at ease for the next 10-15 years, forgetting about repairs in this theater,” the minister noted.

Kyrgyz Drama Theater: outdated equipment needs replacement

The Toktobolot Abdumomunov Kyrgyz Drama Theater also underwent repairs; however, the stage equipment remained the same.

“Some devices are older than me. I am 45 years old now, and they are still in use. Honestly, I felt ashamed during international theater festivals,” Mambetaliev confessed.

He added that in 2025, the Ministry of Culture allocated 30 million soms for the replacement of old stage equipment, including sound and lighting systems.

Opera and Ballet Theater: updates for the international stage

In 2025, the Abdylas Maldybaev Opera and Ballet Theater also received 60 million soms for the modernization of sound and lighting equipment.

“The theater is one of the main cultural centers, and the quality of sound and light here plays a crucial role. We purchased a Steinway piano for 25 million soms, which has already been installed in the theater. Many renowned pianists want to perform with us but require this specific instrument. Now, with God's help, outstanding performers will come to us for concerts next year,” the minister concluded.
