At least 60% of the content must be in the Kyrgyz language
In March 2026, a content check of all TV channels will begin in Kyrgyzstan. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy Marat Tagaev.
The check will concern compliance with the legal norms, according to which at least 60% of programs must be in the state language.
“We will not be closing channels at this time. If necessary, purchase content from 'Kyrgyzfilm' and 'Kyrgyzserial',” the official noted, adding that appropriate measures will be taken in case of violations.
Currently, there are 42 TV channels operating in the republic, of which only two are funded from the state budget: NTRK and ELTR.
