The film industry in Kyrgyzstan is actively developing today: about 70% of distribution certificates are issued to local producers. This was stated in an interview with AKIpress by Mirbek Mambetaliev, the Minister of Culture.

“Our Kyrgyz cinema is in demand, audiences willingly attend films, but we need state support,” he noted.

The minister announced plans to build a film studio and emphasized that the initiative has received support at the government level. The Ministry of Culture also plans to create a Dolby Atmos recording studio, which will provide the opportunity to record three-dimensional sound, allowing for deep immersion in audiovisual works.

“Our filmmakers are forced to travel to Moscow for film dubbing, which is quite expensive due to travel expenses and studio rentals. We need to create such conditions here in the country, and now the state can afford it,” Mambetaliev stated.

According to him, work is currently underway on the technical specifications for the recording studio, and the minister hopes it will be ready by the end of 2026.

As for the film studio, as the head of the Ministry of Culture noted, “private producers” also often go abroad for filming. “We intend to create a studio that will be available for both state and private projects. If the studio is not occupied, private companies will be able to use it, which will also bring income to ‘Kyrgyzfilm’,” he added.

In addition, Mambetaliev announced plans for 2026, when the ministry intends to carry out large-scale reforms in the film industry of Kyrgyzstan. “Our legislation in the field of culture and cinema has not been updated since 2000. We are actively working on changes, analyzing current provisions, and will make adjustments to simplify work in this area,” the minister concluded.
