In the Kyrgyz Republic, the implementation of average speed control on highways is beginning. This decision was announced at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on law and order.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktobyr Urmambetov reported that testing of the system is currently being conducted on the road section between Bishkek and Tokmok.

He noted that specialized cameras have already been installed, which recorded 7,406 cases of speeding. However, the official did not specify the time frame in which these violations were recorded.

According to him, the main goal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to assess the effectiveness of an approach that considers not only individual instances of speeding at the cameras but also compliance with speed limits along the entire monitored section. This is expected to contribute to a reduction in the number of traffic accidents and the preservation of human lives.

Deputy Abdylldabek Egemberdiev raised the question of how effective this average speed control is.

Urmambetov clarified that the department is transitioning from the "Safe City" project to a larger-scale initiative called "Safe Country," which involves expanding the control system on roads, including the implementation of average speed control.

The ministry is confident that this innovation is necessary, as about 70% of all traffic accidents occur due to speeding.
