At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Law and Order, held on January 13, deputy Nurbek Sydygaliev proposed an initiative to raise the minimum age for obtaining a driver's license in Kyrgyzstan to 20 or 21 years.
In Sydygaliev's opinion, this change could positively impact the reduction of traffic accidents involving young drivers. He also urged the Ministry of Internal Affairs to conduct an analysis of youth accident rates, focusing on statistics by age groups, especially among individuals aged 18 to 21 years.

The deputy noted that cases of traffic accidents involving teenagers who drive without parental consent are not uncommon. Sydygaliev emphasized that a later issuance of driver's licenses could help increase the level of responsibility among drivers.

"If the statistics show a high level of accidents among youth, it may be worth considering issuing licenses not at 17-18 years, but at 20-21 years," he noted.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktobyr Urmambetov added that the deputy's proposal will be considered during further discussions on road safety issues.
