At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on January 19, deputy Bolot Saginayev raised the issue of the film "Kurak," pointing out the presence of elements that could be interpreted as propaganda for prostitution and LGBT. He noted that this work of cinematic art represented Kyrgyzstan at the international film festival in Busan.

Saginayev inquired whether the film underwent any censorship procedures before its screening at the festival.

Deputy Minister of Culture Marat Tagaev explained that there is no censorship system in the country. He added, "I watched this film. It is the director's point of view, reflecting reality in our country. There are other films, and I am not aware of the artistic council's decision on this matter. The film indeed sparks controversy, but introducing censorship is not the solution."

The deputy clarified whether this implies that films can be released without considering censorship. Tagaev responded that only legal norms need to be observed. Saginayev reminded that there is a presidential decree prohibiting the promotion of LGBT.

According to the deputy minister, he did not notice any obvious violations in the film. "Cinema should provoke discussions and attract attention. We cannot limit ourselves to only positive images, portraying that we are an ideal people. This does not contribute to the development of our film industry," he emphasized.

Saginayev asked, "Do you really doubt the greatness of our people?"

To this, Tagaev replied, "No, I have always considered our people great. I am talking about the film and the importance of its development without censorship." He suggested that his colleagues watch the film together.
