At today's parliamentary meeting, a bill concerning amendments to traffic safety legislation was discussed. During the discussion, the deputies touched upon the topic of consuming national drinks - bozo and kumys - while driving.

People's Deputy Dastan Bekeshev asked Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktay Urmambetov whether an examination could detect the presence of alcohol in a driver's body if they had consumed bozo or kumys. "Maybe we should clarify the permissible levels of promille for these drinks? This is indeed an important question," he suggested.

In response, Urmambetov noted that examinations do register alcoholic substances in these drinks and added that sometimes the strength of bozo can exceed that of certain types of alcohol.

Another deputy, Ulukbek Karybek uulu, expressed the opinion that kumys should not be considered alcohol and proposed to further examine this issue, as the components of this drink do not affect the blood.

“I am not an expert, but this topic requires deeper discussion. Sometimes the strength of kumys and bozo can be higher than that of beer,” commented the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.

Representatives of the Main Directorate for Ensuring Road Safety (GUOBDD) emphasized that there is no concept of a permissible level of promille. “Alcohol tests determine whether the driver is in a state of alcohol intoxication. Regardless of whether they consumed beer, kumys, or vodka, the tests only register the presence of alcohol,” they noted.

Urmambetov added that it is premature to discuss this issue at the moment, as the infrastructure is not yet ready for its implementation.
