The Cabinet of Ministers opposed allowing 16-17-year-olds to work in the election campaign headquarters of parliamentary candidates

Dastan Bekeshev proposed allowing minors to engage in non-campaign activities

During the third reading of the bill proposed by Deputy Dastan Bekeshev, amendments to the Constitutional Law "On the Elections of the President and Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh" are being discussed.

According to the initiative, citizens aged 16-17 are planned to be allowed to perform non-campaign activities in election headquarters, including organizational and technical tasks not related to election campaigning.

However, the Cabinet of Ministers issued a negative conclusion, stating its position against allowing individuals under 18 years of age in election headquarters.

Bekeshev noted that according to the Labor Code, teenagers from the age of 16 have the right to work provided they have the consent of their parents or guardians, and current legislation does not prohibit them from working.

He raised an important question: why can young people perform physically demanding work but are not allowed to work in election headquarters, where they could gain experience and develop political literacy? The deputy added that he was forced to remove from the bill the provision allowing work for those under 18 to avoid its rejection, although he disagrees with the position of the Cabinet of Ministers.
