Currently, there are two citizens of Mongolia in the prisons of Kyrgyzstan, as reported by Umutkan Konkubaeva, Deputy Attorney General, at a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh that deals with judicial and legal issues and the fight against crime.

At the meeting, she presented a draft agreement on extradition that was signed on July 21 of last year during the visit of the President of Mongolia to Kyrgyzstan.

According to Konkubaeva, there are about 50 citizens of Kyrgyzstan living in Mongolia; however, there are no Kyrgyz citizens among the prisoners in that country. She noted that although criminal cases have been initiated, in most cases, the absence of a crime element prevented the prosecution of citizens, except in cases of violations of migration legislation, which led to the deportation of Kyrgyz citizens.

The Deputy Attorney General also emphasized the need to create a legal framework for the exchange of prisoners, as there are convicted citizens of Mongolia in Kyrgyzstan, and requests for extradition from that country are being received.

As a result of the discussion, the deputies approved the draft law on the ratification of the agreement in the first reading.
