The National Cancer Center of Mongolia performed its first robotic surgery

The implementation of robotic surgery in Mongolia became possible thanks to three years of preparation and work on this progressive technology, which is already widely used in 69 countries around the world.

Robotic surgery, providing surgeons with a "third hand," significantly increases the precision of operations. With the availability of high-speed internet, there will be the possibility of performing surgeries remotely in the future.

In collaboration with the Korean Society of Liver Transplantation, Mongolia is actively developing robotic surgery as one of the latest achievements in global medicine. The Minister of Health, Chinburen Jigjiduren, noted that the state aims to ensure the accessibility of medical services for citizens and minimize the financial difficulties associated with illnesses. He also expressed gratitude to young doctors and medical staff, wishing them success in their careers.

The Minister added that over the past two decades, the development of laparoscopic surgery has created a foundation for the successful implementation of robotic technologies in the country's medicine. He emphasized that this innovation will be an important step forward and strengthen confidence that advanced global technologies will be integrated into Mongolia's healthcare system.

Since 2021, Mongolia has been implementing the project "Creating a National Network for Cancer Prevention and Early Detection," funded with 10 million euros under an agreement between the governments of Mongolia and Austria.

As part of this initiative, the National Center for Oncology and Cardiac Surgery received modern diagnostic equipment, including a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner, a computed tomography (CT) scanner, an angiograph, and a digital mammography system with artificial intelligence support. These improvements have allowed the center to meet international standards and expand the capabilities for early detection and treatment of cancer.

Additionally, in 2022, the National Center for Oncology and Cardiac Surgery modernized radiation therapy by introducing linear accelerators, which improved the accessibility and effectiveness of cancer treatment. Since last year, the center has begun operations to remove deeply located brain tumors that were previously considered inoperable. It is also worth noting that after the successful first liver transplant from a living donor, conducted in collaboration with surgeons from Samsung Medical Center in 2018, Mongolian doctors can now independently perform such operations.
