The territory of Mongolia is covered with snow cover by 74 percent

Data on snow cover indicate that the highest amounts are recorded in the soums of Khovd, Zavkhan, Tsetsen-Uul, and Khövsgöl, where the maximum snow depth reaches 30-40 cm. Over the past ten days, the snow level has decreased by 5 percent.

It is also worth noting that the thickness of ice in rivers and lakes varies from 5 to 50 cm, which is less than the average figures for the same period in 2025 and for many previous years.

As of January 1, most water bodies in Mongolia are already covered with ice, with its thickness increasing by 5-45 cm compared to the previous ten days, ranging from 20 to 120 cm. However, the ice load has not reached a safe level for the movement of people, animals, and vehicles. In this regard, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) strongly recommends exercising caution and avoiding movement on ice or using transport to shorten routes.
