Key recommendations:
- do not go onto the ice alone and do not test its strength by kicking it;
- cracks, holes, or open water may be hidden under the snow cover. If you notice ring-shaped cracks, this indicates that the ice may be unsafe;
- if the ice starts to crack and fissures appear, remain calm, do not run, but gently lie down on the surface of the ice and roll to a safe place;
- for safe movement on the ice, its thickness should be at least 5 cm, and for ice fishing — at least 10 cm;
- snowmobiles can move on ice that is 12 cm thick, small cars — 20-30 cm, and SUVs — 30-38 cm.
