Mongolia will host the large-scale celebration of World Horse Day for the first time, which will take place from July 11 to 13, 2026, in Khui Doloon Khudag, located on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar. The participation of 10,000 riders from 56 countries is expected.

The organizers are currently working on creating a diverse program of events that will highlight all the charms of horseback riding. Five thematic zones planned for the event will cover entertainment, equine therapy, traditional healing practices, cultural programs, and representatives of heritage from all 21 aimags of the country.

It is worth noting that in 2013, an event was held in Khui Doloon Khudag that was recorded in the Guinness World Records, featuring horse races with 3,000 horses and a parade of 10,000 riders in traditional costumes with full gear.

According to estimates by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the total number of horses in the world reached 60.8 million in 2023.

Mongolia is famous for its large horse population, which exceeds the country's population. As of the end of 2023, there are 4.8 million horses in Mongolia out of a total livestock population of 64.7 million. Horses hold an important place in the lives of Mongolians, being an integral part of the nomadic lifestyle and actively used for riding and transportation. They play a central role in Mongolian culture, including traditional horse racing, the production of airag (fermented mare's milk), and various rituals, folk games, festivals, and the celebration of victorious horses that accompany these traditions.
