Uzbekistan authorities aim to triple the number of blood donors

As part of a large-scale reform of the blood service system announced by the authorities of Uzbekistan, a new logistics chain will be implemented, covering stages from need to processing and delivery. These plans were presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on January 20. The main goal of this initiative is to increase the number of voluntary donors from the current 300,000 to 900,000 by 2030.

The developed development strategy for 2026–2030 is based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization. In particular, it is planned to increase the donation rate to 30 per thousand residents, while currently this figure stands at 10. This measure will allow the national blood reserves to increase from 150,000 to 450,000 liters, ensuring full satisfaction of the needs of medical institutions even in critical situations.

Digitalization will be an important element of this reform. An information system called "Electronic Blood Product Accounting" will be implemented in Uzbekistan, which will ensure transparent control over every liter of biomaterial – from the moment of collection to delivery to the patient. The system will also allow real-time integration of clinic orders with emergency medical services.

As for funding, this year, 308 billion soums (approximately $25.5 million) have been allocated for the needs of the blood service. Over the next five years, the total investment in this sector will amount to 1.75 trillion soums (about $145 million). These funds will be directed towards modernizing laboratories and promoting donation among citizens.
