General Zhang Yuxia, who held the position of deputy head of the Central Military Commission of China before his arrest and was a close ally of Xi Jinping, is also suspected of corruption, including bribery and promoting one of the officers to the position of Minister of Defense. According to the newspaper, as part of the investigation, the general was accused of attempting to create a coalition aimed at undermining the party's unity.

Furthermore, as WSJ claims, Zhang Yuxia led the agency responsible for the development and procurement of military equipment and promised career advancement to his subordinates in exchange for bribes.

The Ministry of Defense of China has already initiated an investigation against the general, mentioning "gross violations of discipline and law." The same statement also pointed to another high-ranking military official, Liu Zhenli, head of the Joint Staff of the Central Military Commission, who is also under investigation.
