Suspected of extorting a bribe
As a result of a joint operation by the General Prosecutor's Office and the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), a high-profile prosecutor's office employee has been detained on suspicion of extortion.
On February 1 of this year, the deputy prosecutor of one of the districts in the Talas region, known as S.K.O., was caught red-handed while receiving a bribe of 140,000 soms (approximately equivalent to 1,600 US dollars).
According to information from the GKNB, this official created a corruption scheme by threatening individuals on probation. The investigation indicates that the prosecutor extorted 2,000 dollars, threatening to initiate a review of lenient sentences towards harsher penalties otherwise.
The detainee has been placed in the temporary detention facility of the GKNB, and an investigation is currently ongoing to determine the possible involvement of other officials in this corrupt activity.
