"Letter 75". Detainees Placed in Pre-Trial Detention Center No. 1

On February 12, the Pervomaisky District Court in Bishkek decided to place under custody individuals detained as part of the investigation into the case of mass riots. This was reported by the court's press service, and the information was provided to the editorial office of "AKIpress Digest" on February 13.

In the pre-trial detention center No. 1, where they have been sent, the detainees will remain until April 10:

- A.K.S., born in 1966, former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kursan Asanov;

- T.B., born in 1955, coordinator of the "People's Parliament" and former head of the Prime Minister's Office Bekbolot Talgarbeckov;

- K.A.A., born in 1968, former deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Aaly Karashev;

- U.E.U., born in 1955, former ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan Emilbek Uzakbaev;

- D.K.S., born in 1960, former authorized representative of the president in the Jogorku Kenesh Kurmanbek Dykhanbaev.

The criminal case under investigation pertains to Article 41, Part 2, Article 36, and Article 278, Part 1 ("Organization in preparation for mass riots") of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan.

On February 9, information appeared on social media and in the media that 75 citizens had appealed to President Sadyr Japarov and Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu with a request to hold new presidential elections in the country. Among the signatories are representatives of science, former prime ministers, ex-deputies, and public figures.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that some formulations in this appeal caused "significant discussion among the population and exacerbated the socio-political situation."

On February 11, Talgarbeckov, Dykhanbaev, and Uzakbaev were detained, and later that same day, Asanov and Karashev were also detained.
