Patients were held in isolation without a toilet for 8 days
Gross violations were discovered in the activities of the rehabilitation center "Path to Life" in Bishkek, as reported in a press release from the State National Security Committee (GKNB).
This institution operated as a private medical-psychiatric facility specializing in addiction treatment, but its operations were conducted with serious violations of Kyrgyzstan's legislation.
According to intelligence information, most of the center's staff are former addicts without higher medical education or licenses, who, under the administration's guidance, conducted so-called "pseudo-psychiatric" procedures. In cases of acute psychological crises, cruel and degrading methods were used on patients.
Physical methods and special devices were employed to control patients, such as beds with restraining straps, batons, stun guns, gags, and other means, leading to physical injuries and serious psychological damage.
Violations peaked when "disobedient" patients were placed in isolation rooms, completely deprived of any contact with the outside world (the windows were barred and darkened). These individuals had no access to toilets or personal hygiene products, were put in diapers, and kept in such conditions for up to 8 days.
The owners of this establishment were also engaged in illegal entrepreneurial activities, with the cost of rehabilitation for one patient amounting to at least 80,000 soms. Family members of the patients often were unaware of the "treatment" methods used at the center.
Furthermore, the institution did not adhere to the principles of separating patients with infectious and venereal diseases (such as HIV, tuberculosis, syphilis, and others). All patients were kept in common conditions, increasing the risk of infection transmission.
During the investigative actions, several individuals were detained, including "I.R.K.", "M.Dj.N.", "E.A.V.", "M.I.M.", "M.V.A.", "T.Ch.A.", "K.K.I.", and "Kh.S.V.", who were placed in the temporary detention facility of the Bishkek City Police Department.
Citizens who suffered from the actions of these individuals are urged by the GKNB to contact the duty service of the GKNB Department for Chui Region at the number 0312530301.
