Israeli military, as reported by the IDF, has received the body of the last hostage killed by Hamas. This body belongs to Senior Police Sergeant Ran Gvili, who was captured by militants during their attack on Israel in October 2023.

Currently, all Israeli citizens captured during the Hamas invasion, both alive and deceased, have been returned to their homeland.

The return of Ran Gvili's body has become an important step towards continuing the second phase of the peace plan in Gaza, proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, as noted by Axios. This phase includes the demilitarization of Gaza and the establishment of a new government and security forces. Israel had previously promised to open the "Rafah" crossing on the border with Egypt after the search for the last hostage's body was completed.

It is worth noting that on October 13, Hamas released all remaining living hostages and handed them over to Israel. This was part of an agreement developed within the framework of the peace plan proposed by the White House, and the exchange occurred in two stages.

The situation in the Middle East dramatically changed on October 7, 2023, when the radical Islamist movement Hamas, recognized as a terrorist organization in the EU and the U.S., launched an attack. As a result of a massive rocket strike on Israel and an invasion of its territory, one of the largest mass killings of civilians in the history of the modern state occurred, claiming the lives of around 1,200 people. Militants also captured over 250 hostages, who were taken to the Gaza Strip.
