In the village of Karoоl-Döbö, located in the Aiyl Aimak of Chon-Kemin in the Kemin District of the Chui Region, lives a talented craftswoman Üpölbübü Satarova, who specializes in creating traditional Kyrgyz products – shyrdaks and kiyizes.

She was born on January 10, 1956, in the village of Dön-Aryk in the Chui District, in a family with eight children.

Her mother and mother-in-law taught her the secrets of handicrafts.

“Since childhood, I helped my mother and learned to make shyrdaks, which are Kyrgyz felt carpets with patterns, as well as kiyizes – national wall hangings. After getting married, I had children, acquired a yurt, and decorated it. I learned weaving from my mother-in-law and made many products for my daughters,” Üpölbübü shared her memories.
About 3-4 years ago, she joined the group “Shayir Apalar,” where she actively helps young women master the art of making shyrdaks and kiyizes.

“I took third place in the handicrafts competition at the World Nomad Games. Currently, I live with my son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren,” she noted.

Üpölbübü has four daughters and two sons.

“During the Soviet Union, I worked as a cashier in a store. My husband was born in 1948 in the village of Karoоl-Döbö, and we were together for 31 years. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2006. He worked as a road master in Chon-Kemin,” she talked about her family life.
