The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has decided to move the European Championship, which was scheduled to take place in Tallinn in the summer of 2026, to France.

The issue of relocating the tournament was discussed as early as the end of 2025. The Estonian public broadcaster ERR previously reported that the FIE requested written confirmation from the organizers regarding the possibility of participation for all athletes, as well as their free crossing of borders, regardless of nationality and military rank.

However, the Estonian authorities refused to provide such a document. The Vice-Chancellor of the Estonian Ministry of Culture for Sports, Raido Mitta, noted that Tallinn cannot guarantee unhindered entry for all participants in the competition.

He also added that the country's position remains unchanged: visas will not be issued to athletes from Russia and Belarus, and no exceptions will be made.

Thus, the FIE has made the decision to relocate the European Championship to France.
