According to the official document, the new nuclear power station will be located in the Almaty region, near the settlement of Ulken.
The document notes that "It has been decided to build the nuclear facility 'Second Nuclear Power Plant' in the Zhambyl district of the Almaty region."
Almasadam Satkaliyev, head of the Atomic Energy Agency, previously mentioned the choice of this location at a Majilis meeting. He noted that the southern regions of the country are facing a serious shortage of electricity, making the placement of the second nuclear power plant in this area a priority.
The first nuclear power station is already under construction near Ulken, with the project being implemented by the Russian company Rosatom. Now, the construction of a second nuclear power plant is planned in the same region. The Chinese corporation CNNC is being considered as a potential contractor.
