This event will be the first of its kind for the First Lady of the United States. Under the chairmanship of Melania Trump, the agenda of the UN Security Council meeting will address pressing issues such as education, technology, peace, and security.
According to The Guardian, Security Council meetings are typically held under the leadership of an ambassador from a country or a high-profile government representative. In March of this year, the presidency will pass to the United States.
In August 2025, during a summit in Alaska, Donald Trump handed Vladimir Putin a letter from Melania. As reported by Reuters, the letter raised the issue of the fate of Ukrainian children taken to Russia during the military actions. Later, Fox News published the text of the letter, in which Ukraine is not mentioned. The letter stated: "Mr. Putin, you alone can restore the joy of childhood. By protecting the innocence of these children, you will do a great deed not only for Russia but for all of humanity." In October, Melania Trump announced that her representative was actively working with President Putin's team to ensure the safe reunification of Ukrainian children with their families, adding that after these negotiations, eight children were able to return to their families.
