Tram derailed in Milan: there are fatalities

In Milan, on Viale Vittorio Veneto, an incident occurred on February 27 involving tram number 9, which was heading to Porta Genova, reports the Kazinform agency, citing information from Euronews.

The tram lost control, resulting in it crashing into a building, hitting pedestrians, and damaging a storefront. Emergency services reported two fatalities and around 40 injured, one of whom is in critical condition.

The Milan prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the case of involuntary manslaughter. Initial findings from experts indicate a "high-speed collision."

According to data from Corriere della Sera, this tram is a new model, Tramlink, and began operating on the city's streets just a few weeks ago. Among the possible causes of the accident being considered are a sudden deterioration in the driver's condition or a malfunction of the switch mechanism.13:42
