The fourth train accident in a week in Spain: a train collided with a crane

As a result of the incident that occurred near the port city of Cartagena in the Murcia region, four people sustained minor injuries, local emergency services reported.

According to a representative of the emergency services in southeastern Murcia, "the train remained on the tracks and did not derail."

Due to the accident, traffic was suspended on the section between Cartagena and the village of Los Nietos.

This is already the fourth case of a railway accident in Spain in the past week. The most serious occurred on January 19, when a high-speed train derailed in the province of Córdoba and collided with another train, claiming the lives of 42 people, including the driver of the oncoming train.

On Tuesday, January 20, a suburban train also derailed near Barcelona after heavy rains caused a retaining wall to collapse. In this incident, the driver was killed, and 37 people were injured, five of whom were in serious condition. It was reported that three trainees were in the cabin with the driver, who sustained serious injuries and are currently in intensive care.

On the same day, another incident occurred when a regional train derailed due to a rock that fell onto the tracks, but in this case, there were no injuries.

In light of these events, Spain's largest train drivers' union, SEMAF, announced preparations for a nationwide strike, demanding criminal accountability for those responsible for the safety of the railway infrastructure.
