U.S. President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of conducting a ground operation in Iran. In an interview with The New York Post, he emphasized that he is not afraid of such a scenario, unlike his predecessors.

“I am not afraid of sending our military. Unlike other presidents who say, ‘Our troops will not be there,’ I do not rule out that possibility. Although, perhaps, ground troops may not be needed,” Trump said.

In his address to the nation, the president clarified that the operation against Iran was planned to last from four to five weeks, but the U.S. is prepared to act longer if necessary. He also commented on rumors that he might get “bored” with the war in a couple of weeks, saying, “I am never bored.” Trump added that the destruction of Iran's military leadership, according to the initial plan, was supposed to take about a month, but it was accomplished “in about an hour,” and the U.S., he said, is “ahead of schedule.”

He characterized military actions against Iran as “the last and best chance” to eliminate threats from “a sick and sinister regime.” Among Washington's key objectives, he mentioned the destruction of Iran's missile arsenal and navy, adding that 10 Iranian ships have already been destroyed, which “lie at the bottom of the sea.”

The military operation by the U.S. and Israel began on February 28 after failed negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program. As a result of the attacks, key figures in the Iranian leadership were killed, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Mohammad Pakpour, his advisor Ali Shamkhani, Chief of Staff Abdulrahim Mousavi, and Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh. Later, Khamenei's wife also passed away.

In response to U.S. actions, Tehran began striking American bases in allied countries in the Middle East, as well as civilian targets. In particular, facilities in Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia were hit.
