Syrian authorities and Kurdish forces signed a ceasefire agreement

Ahmed al-Shara
As part of this agreement, which includes 14 points, the parties agreed to a ceasefire against the backdrop of recent advances by government troops in Kurdish regions in northern and eastern Syria, such as Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor, and Raqqa.

Key points of the agreement include: the transition of Kurdish fighters to the Syrian army, the provision of some high-ranking positions in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the transfer of Kurdish oil fields under government control, and the integration of civilian institutions in Hasakah into state structures.

According to the terms of the document, the Syrian government commits to not attacking SDF troops and local self-governing bodies in the eastern part of the country.

It should be noted that at the end of December 2025, hostilities resumed between Kurdish formations and the Syrian army, and by January 10, government troops had captured the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiya. Currently, the army continues its advance into Arabic-speaking regions in the northeast controlled by the SDF, and a large part of Deir ez-Zor province is now under government control — a key area for oil extraction and grain production in the country.
