The Syrian Army has taken control of a number of territories in the north of the country, displacing Kurdish forces.

The Syrian army has captured territories in the north of the country that were previously controlled by Kurdish formations, as reported by The Guardian.
According to the state agency Sana, government troops have fully taken control of the city of Al-Tabqa and the nearby dam. It was also reported that the Al-Rashid bridge over the Euphrates River, which had been operational since June 2024, was blown up.
Additionally, according to data provided by Reuters, the Syrian military has seized major oil and gas fields, such as Al-Omar and Konoko.

Since the end of December 2025, conflicts between Kurdish forces and the Syrian army have intensified again in the country. By January 10, government troops had occupied the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiya. The next day, the Syrian authorities declared the eastern part of Aleppo a closed zone, accusing Kurdish formations of using this territory to launch drones at residential areas and army positions.
