The defense ministers of Cambodia and Thailand have signed a ceasefire agreement that takes effect immediately, according to BBC News.

Under the reached agreements, the troops of both countries will remain in their current positions, with no further movements. Citizens living in conflict border areas will be given the opportunity to return to their homes at the earliest possible time. Additionally, if the ceasefire lasts for 72 hours, Thailand commits to repatriating 18 Cambodian soldiers.

The conflict between Cambodia and Thailand has been ongoing for over a hundred years and occasionally escalates into armed clashes. The latest hostilities began three weeks ago and have already become the second escalation this year.
