In the coming days, Ukrainian specialists will begin work on restoring the 330 kV power transmission line that was shut down due to damage caused by military actions on January 2.

Representatives of the IAEA have also departed from Vienna to monitor the repair work near the front line. Grossi emphasized that this is already the fourth local ceasefire since the conflict began.

Against the backdrop of ongoing attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the IAEA also plans to conduct an expert mission to assess the condition of ten substations that are critically important for nuclear safety. These facilities are necessary to provide electricity for the cooling systems of reactors and other key safety functions.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest nuclear station in Europe, consists of six power units with a total capacity of 6000 MW. It is located near Enerhodar on the southern shore of the Kakhovka Reservoir, which has now run dry.

Since March 2022, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been under Russian control and is operated by JSC "Rosenergoatom." All reactors at the plant are currently shut down but require constant cooling. Electricity for the cooling systems is supplied from the external grid, and in case of outages, backup power is provided by diesel generators.

The plant has been shelled throughout the war, with both sides accusing each other of these attacks. The issue of control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant after the conflict ends is one of the key aspects in negotiations for establishing peace.
