The United Nations has announced the need for $2.3 billion to provide assistance to 4.1 million of the most vulnerable citizens of Ukraine in 2026.

Since 2022, the UN, along with its partners, has been supporting the population suffering from constant attacks on Ukrainian cities and settlements along the front line, as well as those who have been forced to evacuate to safer regions.

UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Matthias Schmale, noted that assistance is needed for internally displaced persons who have been living in collective centers for two to three years, as well as for elderly people and those with limited mobility.

The key areas of the humanitarian appeal for 2026 include not only food, medical assistance, and housing, but also the evacuation of people at risk.

Matthias Schmale emphasized that funding is crucial to support civil society, which helps those affected, including farmers trying to survive in wartime and cancer patients whose access to medications has been disrupted due to attacks on the healthcare system across the country, especially within 50 kilometers of the contact line.

“We appeal to the international community, UN member states, and other donors to maintain solidarity with Ukraine and express this support in the form of financial contributions to our work, which we plan to continue,” added Matthias Schmale.
