According to information from the World Health Organization (WHO), every two minutes, one woman dies from cervical cancer.

WHO experts are confident that the disease can be completely eradicated. To achieve this goal, 90% of girls need to be vaccinated, 70% of women should undergo screening, and most patients should receive the necessary treatment.

According to the organization, cervical cancer is particularly prevalent among women who lack access to medical services, which is most often observed in low- and middle-income countries. The highest rates of incidence and mortality are recorded in countries in sub-Saharan Africa, Central America, and Southeast Asia.

Women with HIV have a sixfold higher risk of developing cervical cancer compared to those who are not infected.
WHO emphasizes the importance of early recognition of the disease's symptoms. These include unusual bleeding between periods, after sexual intercourse, or during menopause, heavy vaginal discharge, discomfort and pain in the pelvic area, as well as weight loss, fatigue, and swelling of the legs.

Women experiencing the above symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.

When detected early, cervical cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer.

It was previously reported that cervical cancer ranks second among the causes of female mortality in Kyrgyzstan. The main factor contributing to this type of cancer is the human papillomavirus (HPV). Since 2022, the republic has included the HPV vaccine in the National Vaccination Schedule.

Vaccination targets girls aged 11. January has been declared Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.
