Jamila Dzhamanbaeva, the ombudsman, visited women's colony No. 2, located in the village of Stepnoye, to assess the conditions of incarcerated women.

According to information provided by the institute's press service, she inspected various facilities within the institution, including a children's home, a medical point, a food block, and a dormitory.

During her visit, the ombudsman met with all the women, including two minors and foreign nationals serving their sentences.

About 40 inmates were able to speak with the ombudsman privately during a personal reception. They were offered legal consultations, and written appeals were accepted.

The majority of the women who sought assistance expressed a desire for help with early conditional release. Some complained about difficulties in obtaining probation, pointing to unjustified court decisions and errors in calculating the time spent in the pre-trial detention center (where one day in custody is counted as two days).

Those wishing to appeal court decisions turned to the ombudsman for legal support and assistance from lawyers.

Two inmates requested assistance in obtaining passports, as they only had Soviet-era documents left.

Convicted individuals in fraud cases expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of opportunities for early conditional release and probation until 75% of the damage to victims is fully compensated.

The women noted that the personal hygiene products they receive mainly consist of household soap, while other items are supplied irregularly.

There is a sewing workshop and a bakery operating within the colony, and the women are also engaged in work in the kitchen, hair salon, and store. During the conversation, the inmates did not complain about working conditions, noting that their wages had recently been increased.

There is also a children's home in the colony, where five mothers live with children under three years old. The youngest child is only two weeks old. The mothers reported that they are provided with all necessary items.

However, the inmates mentioned a shortage of medications, especially for elderly women.

Currently, seven women are receiving treatment at the medical point, including a 69-year-old inmate diagnosed with stage three cancer, who requested assistance for release due to health reasons.

The institution houses 18 foreign nationals from countries such as Kazakhstan, India, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Some of them have requested extradition to their home countries.

In total, there are 292 women in the colony aged from 17 to 78 years: 248 are in general regime, 22 are in strict conditions, and 34 are in special strict regime.

Following the review of the complaints received, appropriate recommendations will be sent to the competent state authorities.

The chairman of the GSIN, Chyngyz Kozhoshev, was also present during the monitoring.
