According to information published in The Washington Post, at least 19 people have died as a result of wildfires in Chile.

As reported by Reuters, the country's authorities have organized a mass evacuation, as more than 30 fire hotspots continue to be active. Extreme heat and strong gusts of wind are exacerbating the situation.

A state of emergency has been declared in the central Biobío region and the neighboring Ñuble area. Chilean authorities reported that 325 homes have been destroyed by the fire, and more than 1,000 buildings have been damaged.

The country's president, Gabriel Boric, noted that the total area of the fires exceeds 30,000 hectares. He also added that international partners are providing assistance, including additional firefighting forces and humanitarian supplies from Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.
