Kazakhstan became a member of the Council of Peace, which was established at the initiative of Donald Trump, without any monetary contributions, as reported by the state agency Kazinform, citing the press service of Akorda.
The press service clarified that joining the Council of Peace requires only a sovereign decision of the state. Membership in the council is limited to a three-year term; however, the mention of a voluntary contribution of $1 billion is not a mandatory condition. Each participant has the right to decide on the contribution.
If a country decides to contribute $1 billion within the first year, it will be able to extend its membership in the council for a longer period.
"Kazakhstan joined the Council of Peace without any financial obligations, which fully complies with the charter," Akorda added.
On January 22, in Davos, during the World Economic Forum, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signed the charter of the Council of Peace. Representatives and leaders from 18 countries also participated in this event.
The Bloomberg publication reported that the Trump administration encourages countries wishing to obtain a permanent seat on the Council to contribute at least $1 billion.
