
In the southern region of Mongolia, Dundgovi, a two-day camel festival called “The Sun is Close from the Camel's Back” was held, aimed at promoting tourism and preserving the culture of camel husbandry for future generations. MiddleAsianNews reports on this event.
Under the leadership of President Khurelsukh Ukhna, the festival was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth, along with other government institutions, including the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry and the office of the aimag governor.


Hundreds of camel herders and their pets gathered in the center of Mandalgovi aimag to participate in this event.




During the festival, spectators witnessed numerous events, including camel races, polo, parades, archery from camels, relay races, and an exhibition of camel wool products.

At the festival, the tallest camel in Mongolia was also presented, standing at a height of 3 meters and 6 centimeters.



Foreign ambassadors also participated in the festival, showing keen interest in the events.
According to the latest census, the number of camels in Mongolia exceeded 501,000 individuals in 2025.
Dundgovi, where the festival took place, is located in southern Mongolia, approximately 240 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
