Scientists named a simple way to quickly reduce anxiety levels

Psychologists have found that just 24 minutes of listening to specially selected music can significantly reduce anxiety levels. This was made possible by a study that examined the impact of musical tracks combined with so-called auditory rhythms, which represent gentle sound stimulation affecting the brain. The results of the work were published in the journal PLOS Mental Health.

In the study, 144 adults with moderate anxiety who were undergoing medication treatment participated. The participants were divided into several groups: one group listened to "pink noise," while the other listened to music with rhythmic auditory stimulation of varying lengths. The anxiety levels and emotional states of the participants were assessed before and after the sessions using standard psychological tests.

The greatest effect was achieved in the group that listened to the 24-minute session. It showed a significant reduction in both psychological and physical manifestations of anxiety and was as effective as prolonged listening, but significantly better than the shorter 12-minute version. Music without rhythmic stimulation had no noticeable effect.

Researchers emphasize that this method could become a useful addition to traditional treatment approaches. Music therapy does not require medication, has almost no side effects, and can be used for quick anxiety reduction in everyday life.
