Gulnara Amankulova, the head of the rehabilitation center for people with disabilities "Ayar," on February 10 at a meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek City Council on economics, finance, and investments, drew attention to the growing problem of autism among children.
“This is not only a problem for Kyrgyzstan but also a global issue. We are facing an autism epidemic,” she noted.
According to forecasts, by 2027-2030, every second newborn may have autism, and by 2035 the situation could worsen.
The "Ayar" center has begun accepting children with autism and is actively mastering specialized methods of working with them. Although the center's specialists possess certain therapeutic skills, they face difficulties in hiring an autism professional, as the relevant specialty is not listed in the state registry.
In 2025, "Ayar" collaborated with Rossotrudnichestvo for the third time, inviting specialists for training. Classes for staff were held at the center and the Osh center.
“Our uniqueness lies in the continuous professional development, as treatment methods are constantly evolving, and the manifestations of the disease can vary,” Amankulova added.
She also mentioned that the University of Cambridge is currently researching the causes of the global autism epidemic.
