At the National Forum "Data and Security in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," which took place on January 28, Professor of Public Law and member of the Association of Professors of Public Law in Germany Lothar Detterman stated that convoluted and overly strict privacy laws can have negative consequences.

During his speech, he referred to the words of the head of one of the major clinics in Germany, who claimed that "data protection takes more lives than infections in hospitals."

According to Detterman, the fear of doctors regarding potential violations of regulations leads them not to disclose necessary medical information about patients. "In medicine, there is a saying: the dose makes the poison. Anything used in excess can be dangerous. I am convinced that excessive restrictions and complex privacy laws can also be counterproductive," he noted.

The professor also pointed out that the complexity of European legal norms creates difficulties for companies, despite the intentions of lawmakers to improve the situation.
