Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Abdyldabek Egemberdiev raised the pressing issue of the lack of irrigation water in the lower part of the Sokuluk district at a meeting of the "Mekenchil" group held on January 30, 2026.
He noted that in the past, there was no shortage of water resources in the villages of Nizhnechuyisk, Kamyshanovka, and Zhany-Pakhta. However, the situation has changed recently, and the lack of water has led to conflicts among local residents, even resulting in physical confrontations. Egemberdiev emphasized that agriculture is the main occupation for the population in the lower zone of the district and inquired about what measures are being taken to address this problem.

In response, the Deputy Director of the State Agency for Water Resources Abdybai Zhayloobaev explained that the water shortage is due to the current dry period being observed throughout the country.
He also added that major repair works are being carried out in each district: channels are being concreted, and new construction projects are being implemented. Currently, there are 12 large reservoirs in Kyrgyzstan.

Zhayloobaev noted that water supply has been reduced by 50%, leading to a shortage of water resources, particularly in the Orto-Tokoy, Papansk, and Kirov reservoirs. Moreover, the agency plans to concrete the western branch of the BChK, and attention has been drawn to the decrease in mountain water inflow, which further complicates the provision of water resources for agricultural lands.
