The government of Kyrgyzstan has announced the launch of a large-scale hydropower project in the Osh region, which promises to significantly strengthen the energy system of the southern region. Recently, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the investment company "Kyrgyzstan Reclaim Co. LTD," which officially confirms the intentions of the parties to construct a cascade of small hydropower plants.
The new facilities will be located on the Tar River in the Kara-Kulja district. The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Energy Altynbek Rysbekov and the General Director of the company, Tsu Chenzi.
This project is considered strategically important for the region, and its total capacity is estimated to be 200 MW. The investor is ready to invest about 300 million US dollars for the implementation of this project.
In the coming months, specialists will conduct detailed surveys in the challenging mountainous terrain, after which the main phase of construction of the energy infrastructure will begin. The opening of the cascade of hydropower plants on the Tar River will not only help eliminate the electricity shortage in the southern regions but also create hundreds of jobs both during the construction process and in the operation of the facilities.
