Ministry of Energy: Large-scale work will be carried out to modernize power grids in the Issyk-Kul region

In 2026, extensive work is planned for the modernization of electrical networks in the Issyk-Kul region, aimed at ensuring reliable electricity supply for the population. According to the Ministry of Energy, these steps will help strengthen the energy security of the region and create modern conditions for consumers.

In particular, this year it is planned to replace 50 kilometers of outdated wires with modern SIP wires, which are safer and more resistant to adverse weather conditions. This innovation will significantly reduce technical losses of electricity and decrease the likelihood of emergency outages.

Additionally, the 110 kV overhead power line connecting Tamga and Przhevalsk will be completely updated. The length of this line is 80 kilometers, and it provides electricity supply to areas such as Jeti-Oguz and Ak-Suu, as well as the city of Karakol. This major project is aimed at stable electricity supply for both the population and social facilities.

As part of the digitalization of the energy system in the Issyk-Kul region, all consumers will be provided with smart meters in 2026. These devices will help accurately account for electricity consumption, control expenses, and reduce excessive consumption.

Important changes are also planned at the Przhevalsk substation: a 25 MVA transformer will be replaced with a more powerful 40 MVA transformer. This will meet the growing electricity needs and create a reliable foundation for the further development of the region.

As part of this modernization, 5 new reclosers will be installed in the region. These automatic switches are designed for distribution networks with voltages of 6–35 kV; they protect lines from fault currents and restore electricity supply after temporary disruptions.

Additionally, 14 transformer substations with voltages of 6–10/0.4 kV will be installed.

All projects, both implemented and planned, are aimed at providing the residents of the Issyk-Kul region with quality, safe, and stable electricity supply.

The updated electrical networks will be a key factor in the socio-economic development of the region and in improving the quality of life of the population, notes the Ministry of Energy.
