- On January 20, 2023, during a meeting of the Committee on Industrial Policy, Transport, Fuel and Energy Complex, Architecture, and Construction, the draft law "On Amendments to the Law on Renewable Energy Sources" was reviewed and approved in the first reading.

Deputy Minister of Energy Altynbek Rysbekov presented information about this draft law.

He emphasized that the initiative was developed in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, which concerns attracting investments in the green economy, particularly in the fuel and energy complex.

Currently, electricity tariffs are set by the Cabinet of Ministers in the national currency.

The proposed draft law will allow prices to be set in foreign currency for investment projects and projects implemented under public-private partnerships in the energy sector. This, in turn, is expected to positively impact the attraction of foreign investments and improve the overall investment climate in the country.

Furthermore, the draft law clarifies the concept of the grace period for the existing maximum tariff on renewable energy sources and introduces a new term "auction," which will serve as a mechanism for selecting projects and determining tariffs through the reduction of the maximum level.

These changes are aimed at increasing the transparency of the selection process and enhancing the competitiveness of projects.
