In 2026, the Kyrgyz Republic will continue to import electricity to compensate for its deficit. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Energy Altynbek Rysbekov at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee dedicated to the draft law "On Renewable Energy Sources."

According to Altynbek Rysbekov, the annual electricity generation in the country amounts to 14.5 billion kilowatt-hours.

“The electricity deficit reaches 4.5 billion kilowatt-hours. Last year, we covered it through imports, receiving 4.3 billion kilowatt-hours from neighboring countries. At the same time, electricity is sold to the population at social tariffs, and the difference in prices falls on the shoulders of NESK. Electricity imports will continue this year,” he added.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of developing renewable energy sources to address the deficit issue. “We aim to create favorable conditions for attracting investors. Currently, there are many interested parties. The construction of wind and solar power plants may take up to two years, which will allow us to quickly start energy production. Therefore, the development of renewable energy remains our priority,” Rysbekov noted.
