Ministry of Energy: Electricity consumption is increasing annually, with a deficit of 4.2–4.3 billion kWh.

At the meeting of the Committee on Industrial Policy, Transport, Fuel and Energy Complex, Architecture, and Construction, held on January 20, 2026, Deputy Umbetaly Kydyraliev raised the issue of the state of the energy sector in Kyrgyzstan.

The deputy was interested in the volumes of electricity imports and the existing deficit.

In response, Deputy Minister of Energy Altynbek Rysbekov stated that all energy-generating facilities in the country produce an average of 14.5 billion kWh of electricity per year.

According to him, to fully meet the country's needs, about 20 billion kWh is required, indicating a deficit in the range of 4.2-4.3 billion kWh.

Additionally, Rysbekov noted that Kyrgyzstan imports electricity from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia.

He also added that electricity consumption in the country is steadily increasing.

As part of the discussion at the meeting, the draft law "On Amendments to the Law on Renewable Energy Sources" was also considered in the first reading.
