Despite the ambitious goals, the question arises regarding the practical usefulness of this technology. Modern Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) already provide lane change capabilities using turn signals or automatic overtaking of slow-moving vehicles. It is unclear how much more convenient and safe gaze-based control will be for most users.
Nevertheless, such technology may prove particularly beneficial for drivers with limited physical abilities who find it difficult to perform standard maneuvers.
