At a recent meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Nilufar Alimjanova emphasized the importance of assessing the effectiveness of measures aimed at reducing air pollution and smog in Bishkek.

She raised questions about how realistically the level of smog has decreased, what specific actions have been taken by the city administration and relevant ministries, and how much funding from the budget has been allocated for the corresponding projects.

Alimjanova reminded that the parliament of the VII convocation supported various initiatives aimed at improving air quality.

“An interdepartmental commission has been formed with 25 members, funds have been allocated, and projects have been implemented. I would like to see exact figures on the reduction of smog levels,” the deputy noted.

Daniyar Tologonov, deputy director of "Kyrgyzhydromet," reported that when comparing data from 2024, the level of air pollution remains stable. However, according to him, air quality has noticeably improved compared to 2023.

He noted that various factors influence the situation, including weather conditions, such as a warmer winter. At the same time, the deputy director emphasized that the measures taken by the ministries and the city administration are beginning to yield results.

“As for pollutants, there is a slight decrease in gas emissions. The measures taken are starting to take effect, but improving air quality is a long-term process that depends on many factors and is not resolved instantly,” he explained.

Alimjanova acknowledged the impact of natural conditions but emphasized that every measure outlined in the relevant resolutions should lead to concrete results in reducing smog levels. She also pointed out the importance of having a clear methodology for measurements and transparent indicators.

The deputy requested written information on this issue to be provided to the committee, reminding that in November and December, Bishkek was among the cities with the highest levels of smog for several weeks, which caused significant public resonance.
